âOh, come on!â Sebastian exclaimed, rolling his eyes as he gestured at the measly plate of food that had been slid into his cell from under the bars. âAll youâre giving me is a piece of gross jerky and a hard-boiled egg? This is less than half we got yesterday!â He continued to complain. The guard let out an exhausted huff as he turned and slid the other food tray into the womanâs cell across from him. She stared silently at the two small pieces of bread and singular slice of cheese. The food wasnât just terrible, it was also way too small a portion size for her body-building routine.
âNew orders! Neither of you eats a full meal until we start learning the truth,â The young guard said sternly. The woman continued staring stoically at her tray, not even bothering to look up at the smarmy guard that looked down at her. After a moment more, he turned his head and straightened his back, marching out of their view and up the stairs without another word. The pair of inmates waited silently until they heard the door click open, then slam shut moments later. Then, in a sudden hurry, the pair went over to their trays and began splitting their meals into halves.
âWell, this sucks,â The woman said as she knelt in front of her tray and readied her hands, staring in Sebastianâs direction. Sebastian let out a small laugh as he picked up the jerky, tearing it in half and carefully tossing it over to the woman across from him. She caught it with ease in her powerful hands as she lifted a slice of bread and threw it over to him.
âGuess they didnât expect us to become such fast friends. Otherwise, this would be way worse, especially for you!â He said, with a dumb smile across his face. The woman rolled her eyes.
âJust because weâre sharing food does not make us friends,â She said, clearly unamused. She caught the egg out of the air and inspected it. She raised an eyebrow as she looked back at him. âThis looks like more than half,â She said, raising an eyebrow.
âFigure with those stupid muscles that you probably need it more than I do,â Sebastian said with a shrug. She worked diligently to form a small sandwich with all the ingredients they had at their disposal. She shook her head and groaned.
âOh, ancestors help me, the manâs falling in love with meâ¦â The woman said, letting out a sigh. Sebastian, who was too impatient to make any sort of sandwich out of his ingredients and had a mouth full of jerky, let out a hardy laugh.
âYou could only be so lucky!â He snorted, chewing wildly as his mouth reminded him of his forgotten hunger. He usually was pretty good at distracting himself from his growling stomach. The woman lifted her sandwich and took a huge bite of the surprisingly well-made meal. With the way these impromptu sandwiches fit together, it almost
